2 years ago, we celebrated our 10 years with 5 anniversary eps entitled 10 by ten, where we asked 10 of our favorite artists to write an exclusive track for the occasion. two of the stand out tracks were martin iveson - aka atjazz - leave me here as well as art of tones, koniokola, which we thought deserved a second life. freerange and delusions of grandeur boss, jimpster, blesses us with his deep yet driving rendition of leave me here, while fred everything chooses to update koniokola with a more dance floor approach and a strip down dub. we also included the original of leave me here which was never available on vinyl.

tomoki tamura s holic trax label has long been renowned as a canny exporter of clued in house and techno. their latest continues in this regard, as tamura again calls on a series of renowned label friends to bring the heat. with names such as mr.g, satoshi tommie and tuccillo all appearing it here alongside tamura himself, it s no surprise that this 3 x vinyl record, celebrating 5 years of the label, is filled with drama and high points throughout. this is immediately obvious from mr.gs soba shioyaki. titled in homage to the label s japanese heritage, it s a dark and dexterous workout that marks another high point in a career filled with big records. deep but tough, it s a perfect of why the tech house master is so revered in underground circles. gs komorebi puts a tough emphasis on the drums, as well as a weaving, subtle baseline that adds a further dynamic to his work here.

sven weisemann is set to release his ‘bilateral relations’ ep via copenhagen’s echocord this september, comprising four originals from the german producer. sven weisemann has been immersed in the underground house and techno scene for quite some time now having started djing in 1997 during the rise of the scene on his home turf of berlin and going on to release material via the likes of amsterdam’s delsin, mojuba, telrae and liebe.detail amongst many more. here though we see sven joining the roster of echocord, a perfect fit for his more dubbed out compositions with artists like fluxion, rod modell and stl on the roster. ‘lunation’ opens the release and sees weisemann fuse emotive string melodies and cavernous vocal echoes with off- kilter rhythms and rounded sub hits before title-track ‘bilateral relations’ embraces a more direct four-four approach via sparse percussion and tumbling toms alongside choppy bass stabs and ever-unfolding, echoing dub chords. opening the flip is ‘monistic’, an airy ethereal number employing billowing pads, bright synth chimes and a dropped tempo dubbed out feel to create something truly stunning and thought provoking before the ‘decimation (valvle tr9 mix) closes things on a darker tip with looming stab swells, heavily swung drums and sporadic growling bass drones.

new deeptrax release by g.w. hailing from london. this is the new fifth deeptrax ep from the mysterious ruffien. immensely diverse sounds from the caverns of south-east london. hypered house, dungeonesque taped techno, dirty filthy electro and lo-fi dubby idm, all combined with that delicate grimy touch.

producer and dj from cantabria pablo bolívar signs the new release in his very own seven villas, in which he takes the chance to interpret --remixwise-- the tracks on the album traverse -by sensual physics which was originally released in 7v in 2016.

we are facing a very special project for pablo bolívar this time. his admiration for the veteran german producer joerg schuster -one of pablo s musical heroes- gets highly reflected in each one of the eight revisions which form this traverse (reprise) . what pablo exactly does is to respect the original escapist, dubby and ambient spirit of the original trip proposed by traverse , by means of adding a soft, deep and sophisticated club aura. he turn that the album sensual physics takes into the most characteristic bolívar style is tasteful and subtle, therefore it seems a sequel of the original one. no crashes, no harshness. here everything flows simply in a natural way, especially that ambient-deep and tech fog which just adds a punch in any case. tunes as mondragon , málaga or miracle -among others- acquire a new dimension when touched by pablo bolívar s hands: always looking to their origin with respect to the original producer and the delicacy of a revised piece of work.

roman producer (and a force behind minimalrome label) valerio lombardozzi known as heinrich dressel returns to barba with a second release for our label, titled -the styx swamp-. heinrich has a unique way of combining classic techno and electro sounds with elements from the beloved drexcyan universe and john carpenter leitmotifs, and making them come together in a manner that both moves your body and pushes your mind beyond the point of awareness. as with the previous record, -lurking underwater-, here he pulls off the move with the same efficiency and without sounding like he s repeating himself. -gray slope-, -sailing the nether waterways- and -the styx swamp- are all quite moody and deep, rich with sound and thick with vibe. however, the tracks feel equally at home in 4 am techno situation and a heady afterhours affair. he truly is a master of crafting hybrids whose influences get so flawlessly embedded that it s hard to point them out. if that s not enough, -the styx swamp- got a treatment by nigel rogers aka perseus traxx, a multi-faceted producer and a mighty live act performer. nigel stayed respectful to the original but made the original s bouncy groove into something more direct and reduced, while retaining the same feel conditioned by lead synth s hypnotic quality. we re known to give a little bit of extra love to our releases so (as all before) this one s pressed onto a heavy duty 180 gram vinyl and beautifully packaged in an original artwork by emaemaema.

re-release of beverly glenn-copeland’s rural canadian new age suite for dx7 and tr707 …keyboard fantasies… with new carefully reconstructed glasswork design by alan briand beverly glenn-copeland is already known amongst collectors and music heads for two sought-after albums of folky jazz in the key of joni. but it was this album, originally self-released on cassette in 1986 that really caught our attention. the album, entirely recorded on dx-7 and tr-707, lies somewhere between digital new-age and (accidentally) early detroit techno experiments. the inimitable style of bgc here is both peaceful and meditative while simultaneously rhythmic and bass heavy. the album was recorded in the northern canadian town of huntsville where bgc was living at the time and is a beautiful fusion of personal vision, technology and place.

the crooked man returns to bitter end with an emotional copy only limited pre-release of powerful club pieces... keen eyed aficionado s may spot the homage to mel cheron s classic us label west end records here but while their motto may have been where the sun sets & the stars rise bitter end records embarks on a distinctly more 21st century path to dancefloor salvation... echo loves narcissus - part 1 is the opening salvo in a sonic saga across four movements, marrying, as it does irresistibly uplifting chords and vocal ad-libs to a bass line so thick it ll rattle the windows right out of your ride and knock the tiles straight off the walls of your cerebral restroom. once you ve adequately composed yourselves, we invite you to the 11 minute monster which is get the love on the aa... this recalls the brief but genre defying 1990 jams from mundo muzique s revelation project: synth assisted house-nosis, buoyed by the mantric voice imploration to accept higher states of carnality atop an immersive blanket of propulsive rhythms. once again bitter end rips up the rule book, and crafts a whole set of new, better ones in which freedom reigns light years ahead !

first ep of the label lowlife cartel. dissociative tones, texture of the sound and atmosphere sought here, more than melody. no boundary in genre but same sonic ethos. the two sides of the ep includes two tracks ambient/downtempo fitting with patient listening. three other, lofi tracks, and more efficient to play into clubs. face a starts with -nerve splicing- by telekommunist, also known as wpx7, face covered and steps muffled through a deadening blizzard of tape saturation and white noisey envelops that find a balance between deepening the sense of immersion and a retained groove. -kairu- by a. latif, affiliated to the experimental and elusive russian label john s kingdom. an arsenal of textures are employed, surrounded all the time by different kind of breeths carving out a growingly satisfying contrast between the shivery charm of its melodic line and the roughness of its elements. a rough diamond. face b, -kfs-, by vslds (present on the next cousin carl release, after kinway and voyd) is a delusional and abstract piece of lofi hip hop. setting skittish drums and heavily altered rapper vox sample, smothered against a grey-ish canvas of blurry, washed-out pads. this feels both playful and unhealthy. -gotta go fast-, by paul santangelo (venetian causeway), is marked with the very personal style of this artist who does his way across the ever effervescent lofi techno scene. the round, drag-shed bass, fits with an introspective melody and atmosphere. -every man has a woman who loves him-, by loophie (raw russians), surprises the listener at the end of the disc with a lofi house track sampled from john lennon, very effective in club. the czech lofi house videomaker moskalus edited a video of it on his youtube channel. 5 artists to follow.

the highly-anticipated ep, despite everything , written and produced by italian techno artist, ayarcana, with remixes by london based producer manni dee, along with berlin based producer, huren, is finally here. this is the second release for omen recordings, once again archiving the dark sounds and malignant spirit of techno.

the make mistakes gang returns with their second record in the form of remixes of roy england s techno rocker, photon. what you get here is a package of dance floor cuts showcasing the varied styles, and tastes of the crew, making this a versatile record that s gonna find a way to fit in where ever it s needed. on the a side we have a taste of attentat s signature sound: hypnotic, driving minimal techno. a slowly evolving meditation, this stripped down, pulsing jam will ignite the late night dance floor. an irrepressible tinkerer, roy england took the original, funked it up, worked it out, and streamlined it for peak time. in his remix, roy crafted a consummate party jam, steady, pumping, and full of life. with his remix, time for trees takes you on a psychedelic, housey frolic through the woods. what we have here is a slow building, mind-bending groove, wrapped up in cascading waterfalls of sound. the make mistakes label has built a diverse sound around a cohesive aesthetic. with the photon remixes, they continue that tradition, with style and depth, fine-tuned for dance floor lovers.

as bpmf started making techno again, he surveyed his techno friends asking them what it was about his music they found the most annoying. the answers? tr-606 hi-hats and portamento. he proceeded to focus on these aspects of his music and today the results are here: -abide the glide volume 4- wherein bpmf is pushing all the right buttons to get the dj thinking about the sounds their pumpin. jamie morris provides an excellent dj freindly remix of -even straighter-, taking bpmf s idea and going even straighter.

when octo octa sent us the demos for her first full-length record since 2013, we were floored by how many tracks were single worthy. but, there was one that stood out as something entirely on its own, a song that in many ways sounded like nothing maya had ever released. since the beginning, we always knew we wanted to do something special with adrift, the 8+ minute space-age synth-dub techno tune. when we asked maya about doing a 12inch with remixes we were blindsided to learn she has never had any of her music remixed before. with some remixers in mind, she asked two of her favorites and they said yes. so, here we are to present hny-016 octo octa adrift, remixed by avalon emerson and dorisburg.

raphael ray munnings is famously known as the band leader and singer of the mighty bahamian funk legends the beginning of the end, he is also a formidable solo artist in his own right with a clutch of sought after, rare 7- singles throughout the early to late 70 s as well as numerous appearances with his band. opportunity knockin from 1972 is an early one from ray, released on tk disco s alston imprint, it s often been a rare 45 and doesn t show up very often. opportunity knockin is channelling the usual sun-soaked vibes of his later material this single is a sweet one for summertime, breezy horn infused funk with tough drums and that caribbean vibe. the b-side is also a winner, sleep on, dream on is an uptempo slice of wah wah driven soul with a serious groove and a peace-loving, ecologist theme running through ray s vocals. sublime stuff, for real fans of funk and soul rarities! nab this rare 45 of caribbean soul, re-issued here in it s original 45 rpm format with the original alston label artwork. it s been re-mastered, re-pressed and made available again with the permission of tk disco / alston records, miami florida, usa.

stefan schwander aka harmonious thelonious is definitely not a newcomer. he has been around for a long time and has already released lots of amazingly varied music on labels such as emotional response, italic, meakusma and diskant. he’s also an integral part of the infamous duesseldorf / salon des amateurs axis that is an obvious hotbed of talent. he describes his style as -american minimalism vs. african drumming vs. european sequencing-, a heady mixture which is clearly evident on this ep though with a definite middle eastern twist. here at versatile hq we were introduced to this clutch of tracks by one of the members of acid arab and we were totally blown away. stefan has a very unique production style, fusing all of the above elements with a hint of gamelan, a dash of tweaked fm synthesis type sounds with a dose of warm ambience and finally his own singular touch on the mix. we are very happy to present you these 4 tracks to you, an essential ep from one of european music s true originals.

the third and final part of the jacob f. desvarieux anthology on endless flight brings two more hot productions of the fabled french zouk veteran with roots in guadeloupe. the tune “rifyx” is taken from desvarieux’s 1985 album “oh madiana” and delivers arresting jazz-funk and zouk-suspense enlarged with touching horns, synth-enthusiasm and longing female vocals. the second song comes from the paris based, west cameroon born singer tala, produced by desvarieux for tala’s album “mother africa” in 1982. also here desvarieux tuned the synthesizers odd and edgy to let them dance with an afro styled rhythm. above all tala sings sexy with a chorus of girls while percussions go crazy and the sounds of horns are longing for the sky. on top of everything endless flight asked again the japanese producer kuniyuik to edit a desvarieux track. he chose “rifyx” and tuned it into an epic soulful eight minutes long dream house anthem that funks all dancers crazy. hotter than hot stuff here!

kenk! is a story of a blossoming romance, like when decontextualised acid met with relentless tension and they hopped into a hypercube. here, carlo maria uses a pointilistic diablerie to extract a loud mixture of droney melancholy and rhythmic euphoria. after releasing a blissful record with caterina barbieri on &#931,,, (as punctum), carlo chooses the path of reduction and force. kenk! lays hold of you and makes you move&#9889,,, somewhere. quickly, but with no intended direction. yes, it’s made for the dancefloors - you just have to trust us on this one.

keope is the musical brainchild of toni bruna and marcus rossknecht. with the aim to record an album they ve met in an abandoned quarry on the slovenian border. the outcome tropicalni seems to exist in a vacuum. stylistically, all tracks here owe something to multiple genres and reference points - from folk, balearic, psychedelic and electronica, but none really fit well. synths drift in breezily, floating around the wistful melodies, acoustic guitars sparkle, while flutes & the beats hint at a deeper connection to dance rituals.

while red axes s ode to the sun is still running strong one and a half years after its release (it even made it into last year s top 50 at resident advisor), here comes the heavyweight remix package: german wunderkind konstantin sibold is hitchhiking the original into afro rave territories with vodoo percussions and a hauting bassline that will be hard to escape from. fango from the italian degustibis family continues his string of strong remixes as he turns the original into a rough beat version just to drop the melody in the break for maximum dancefloor mayhem. and last but not least the axes themselves come up with a tropical house version that works any time any place. and thus the sun continues to shine.

its just over a year since we started our new label, real balearic. for our second artist album we are really pleased (and honoured) to welcome one of the few djs who can claim to be one of the founders of the eclectic balearic sound. take a trip back to the 70s and 80s in northern italy and you will fine daniele baldelli mixing up electronic, african and slo-mo disco records to co-create the electronica meccanica sub genre. records often would be played at the wrong or variable speed to be made to fit into a wide aural tapestry of his unexpected-but-seamlessly-flowing dj sets. this of course is an aesthetic close to us here at real balearic. a sound we are ever so pleased to have as part of the mixing pot for our new balearic label. for the album he pairs up with fellow italian dj rocca to serve up an eclectic â€,“, electronic â€,“, balearic feast.

after the huge success of their first collaboration, doorly and el prevost are back for part two: this time the world touring doorly serves up a hot original that gets remixed by red rack‘em and el prevost, while el prevost also serves up an original of his own, all on his own no speakers label. the first ep, featuring a lee foss remix, got support form the likes of paco osuna, solomun and groove armada and this second instalment is set to be just as big this summer. doorly is a dance heavyweight who headlines clubs like space ibiza on his global travels, releases on cajual, hot creations and dirtybird and is no stranger to hitting high places in the charts with his big and infectious sounds. as a dj he is energetic and can make a mark on any dance floor, and so will this new tune, ’sonder.’ it is six superbly deep and atmospheric minutes of warm, rolling drums and searching synths that bring an intergalactic feel next to twinkling keys. jostling percussion brings a little loose funk and the whole thing is sure to lock in dance floors. el prevost then steps up to remix after 15 years of putting out killer cuts on labels like third ear. his music has made its way into the record bags of tastemakers like steve bug, dj hell and steffi and this excellent remix shows off his singular style again. it is a little tougher and more energetic than the original, with sprinkled hits, rumbling bass and pixelated synth lines dancing about up top. then comes red rack‘em, the bergerac boss who had a huge hit with ‘wonky disco bassline banger’ last year. it was one of the tracks of the year and has been followed by an equally brilliant album by this esteemed house veteran. his remix here is big, bouncy and off kilter thanks to its coarse hi hats and punchy rubber drums. great vocal treatment adds more wonkiness and broad synth strokes flesh things out into another sure-fire party starter that sounds like little else. last but not least, el prevost offers up a solitary state mix of his own ‘temper mental’. it’s a hugely inventive track with great synth modulations burrowing deep into your brain as dancing hi hats and whirring bass encourage you to cut loose and shift freaky shapes. this is a strong ep that really packs a punch across four standout tracks.

the album includes the most direct and propulsive shinoby material yet. there is a functional connection to dance music here, honing in on the celestial bliss s human element embedded within a sound fraught with inhumanity.the music is emotional, hostile, dark, grungy, dissenting, acidic and energetic. mostly based on repetitive patterns, the distorted yet perfectly balanced percussion drills through the concrete warehouse walls long into the night. the not occasional use of distortion brings the dense atmosphere to near suffocating limits.

copenhagen’s echocord colour returns this august with stephen brown’s ‘power factor’ ep, featuring three originals from the uk techno stalwart. scottish producer stephen brown is a name synonymous with techno across the globe having been releasing material since the mid nineties on imprints such as derrick may’s transmat, subject detroit, skudge records, ben sims’ theory and holland’s djax up beats amongst many more. here we see brown join the roster of echocord’s sub-label colour, slotting him in alongside the likes of mike dehnert, nick ho&#776,,,ppner, luke hess and deadbeat in the back- catalogue. up first on the release is ‘sandtext’, a stripped-back dubbed out opening cut fuelled by a robust kick and minute percussive hits running alongside a sturdy sub bass drive and spiralling dub stabs before ‘wet’ takes things even deeper via muted kicks, shuffling shakers and delayed synth chords. ‘back stroke’ then rounds out the release with an amalgamation of airy reverberated stab hits, rumbling low end pulsations and a thunderous kick drum to once again create an understated, hypnotic composition.

gary brackley aka g.r.i.t returns to meanwhile afor his second full length vinyl release following on from 2012 s ahighly regarded and asought after as i look to to the sky. the seven new tracks presented here acould easily be described as a great dub techno album by the lazy hack but the sound palette used goes way beyond that, afusing elements from detroit, drone, industrial, and ambient techno which when coupled with his production techniques result ain a sound that is uniquely g.r.i.t atake opening title track difting from the bay which draws on the sounds of detroit with emotive chords and delicate percussion, or principle with deep distorted amodulations. if you want a adance floor cut alook no futher that expansed awhich grooves with driving chords, and asubtle persussive builds, aor for asomething heavier there is -pheonix- awhich would sound quite at home in any techno main room. tracks such piagga and dead faces balance heavy industrial beats and noises with meloncholy chords and pads to produce tracks of immense depth and feeling. and closing the album perfectly is immersion with mournful aambient works-esq achords and melodies, in which you will indeed find yourself drifting from the bay
